Summer Day Camp --- Day Seven

This week our theme is the 4th of July, so we had a few crafts to make to help us decorate for our 4th of July this Friday.  KT made red and blue rice!  Put a few drips of food coloring in a metal bowl with rice and mix, mix, mix until you have the color you want.  We added drops until we liked the color.  Then spread it out on a cookie sheet with parchment paper.  You can put in a warm oven to speed up the process, or just leave it out for a couple of hours.

Once the rice is dry, layer it (KT said the pattern is red, white, then blue! Good girl!)  We made three containers.  Then nestle a candle into the rice.  Done!  We lite them up so KT could see how pretty they will be.  She did a great job.

 They turned out so pretty!
Time for a snack.  KT had a Yoohoo, and she really liked it.  She said it tastes like chocolate with almond taste.  I have to confess, I've never had a Yoohoo.  Have you?
Then on to the next chore.  Time to decorate the front gate!  Sparkly garland and a big red, white and blue bow!
Okay, that's enough chores - time to go to the library!  KT found a few books she wants to read (her usual books about dinosaurs, snakes and such.) Meanwhile, I found two books on America and why we celebrate the 4th of July.
We checked all of these out and headed home for lunch.
After lunch we made another craft -- this one is windsocks!  KT decorated several of the tops, and we used double sided tape to put on the streamers (we just used crepe paper streamers I bought at the $ Store!)

Punch some holes in the top and string some yarn to hang them with.  They turned out great, and KT took one home for her house!

Time to finish off the day with a swim!  KT can swim to the bottom of the pool now, touch it, and push herself up out of the water!  She is just learning by leaps and bounds ... and speaking of leaps .....
Time to sun a bit...she insisted that Grumpy sun bathe with her, then she covered up under a towel! ha! Time to go in for a late afternoon snack and then day seven was over! We had so much fun!
