Day Two - Massachusetts, Maine

The day started in Boston by bus (yes, I swore I'd never do another bus tour, but if you saw the streets in Boston, you'd know why I'm so glad we're not driving!)

The tour started at the Paul Revere square and the Old North Church.  Such a sense of history here.  We stood in the same place where the brave men and women who proceeded us in creating this wonderful country stood.  The church is where the two lanterns were lit to warn the colonists that the British were coming to confiscate their ammunition and arrest the leaders.  This action led to the beginning of the Revolutionary war.  Amazing history.  Then we toured the cemetery there.

The tour continued by bus to the USS Constitution, where we were able to stand near this ship known as Old Ironsides.  Off to Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market, where John and I had lunch at the Cheer's Bar and Pub.  We had the Fenway Park Dogs, which had some strange chili made with corn and black beans.  It tasted so different from our chili, I think they use a different chili pepper as the base.  It was good, just different then Texas chili.
Off by bus thru a bit of New Hampshire and into Maine.  We stopped at the Nubble Lighthouse outside of York, Maine.  Beautiful!  The sea was coming in so hard and fast - crashing on the shore.  There was quite a group of sea birds there to watch.
Afterwards, we went off to Kennebunkport.  I don't know what I was expecting. It's a cute little town with clapboard shops all along the waterway.  We got to walk around town some, and then drove out to our hotel, driving past George Herbert Walker and Barbara Bush's summer home, Walker Point.  It was really neat, off on it's own little island with a secret service guard at the front gate!  Cool!
Finally we arrived at the Ocean Woods Resort in Kennebunkport for the evening.  It's an older hotel right on the ocean.  Nice, but definitely old school.  I mean, who gets an actual metal key anymore -- but that's what we had to open our door! ha!  Fun!
They served us clam chowder as an appetizer, with a stuffed chicken and lobster roll for dinner.  It was great.  Nice people who run this place.
Thank goodness John brought his MyFi with him so that I'd have some internet service - when I say old school, I wasn't kidding!!
Tired! Off to bed!
PS: Tomorrow we are promised some actual trains on our train tour! Finally!
