We went to see Act of Valor tonight...we've both been wanting to see this movie about the Navy Seals.
First impressions - makes you proud of the fire-power of our country when its needed. No lie, I was impressed by the amount of pure big-ass weaponry they used in this movie, which features real people (only a handful of real "actors" are ever seen in the movie) and I read that they insisted on using live rounds because they claim it sounds right. I like that, and I have to say, these guys did a fine job.
The movie starts with one of the team members writing a letter. From this beginning, you begin to see how much each of these guys cares for the rest of their team, and for their country. This is the heart of what is missing in so many so-called "war" movies that the Hollywood machine grinds out. They also love their families, which was illustrated by the writer of the letter saying, "when they are away they are always trying to get back home." Very touching, given the rest of the movie.
There is a plot, about catching a terrorist who is trying to smuggle explosive vests into the US through Mexico, via border tunnels. There's lots of action, including rescuing a CIA operative who is being tortured, catching the man who is bankrolling the terrorist, and more. The team sniper was amazing, I sure hope we really do have guys this accurate.
Super movie, bring Kleenex.
I mean that.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
