As you may know, with me it's "pie, oh pie, oh my!" Love a good pie. Well, last night we had a few friends over for a little dinner party, and one of our guests brought a HOME MADE (as in home-squeezed key limes -- if you know how small those are, you know that's a real trick) key lime pie. My husband's favorite pie of all time.
When John and I first met, we got to know each other the typical way people do...what's your favorite color? what's you favorite pet? what's your favorite pie? Well, for him it was his mother's key lime pie. (in case you're wondering, mine was cherry, and remains cherry to this day.) Well, key lime pie is tart. Let me repeat... key lime pie is TART. As a 19 year old raised in San Antonio, Texas, dessert was supposed to be sweet.. SWEET. So I thought he was kind-of crazy at the time (but I married him anyway.)
I've learned to appreciate a good key lime pie over the years because John tries it every where he can find it. If it's on their menu, John will order it. Needless to say, key lime pie varies according to where you find it. Some are sticky sweet, some are airy, whipped concoctions, some are dense and thick, more like cheese cake. None really have come up to the standards of his mother's.
But the key lime pie we had last night was there! I think the key is real key limes, home-made and squeezed, not from a bottle. Delicious! Thank you, Kathy L.! You made his day. (Oh, and don't think I didn't notice that the L's and the H's traded assignments -- I did! But it worked out fantastically!)

Cousins at Christmas
This had to be at one of our famous Schwencke Women's Christmas breakfasts. Look how girly these three are dressed! So, so cute - and bibs, even! I predict that KT is going to have something green and red plaid this Christmas from her Grammy! ha! (PS: we still have a few of the chairs that went with this table set. Amazing!)

The Sound of Music to my ears....
... was listening to my 83 year-old mama singing along to the movie this evening at the Huebner Oaks theater. I was a little hesitant, since it didn't start until 6:30pm, and that's late for her. But I went along, thinking if she only lasted 30 minutes, at least she might enjoy part of it. The theater was full! Amazing how this movie has lasted and still has such a following - - - of all ages! This was a "sing along" and the whole place was filled with voices. Amazing.
Mom lasted about 2-1/2 hours! Full props to my sister for finding this amazing event and for arranging to take our mom. I'm so grateful to her for this evening of Mom enjoying old memories - - - beautiful!

Love Creek Pumpkin Patch
Where we went on Sunday! At Love Creek, we had a great time taking pictures in the pumpkins, taking KT to the petting zoo, and then lunch at Keese's BBQ in Medina. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday. Isn't she just ADORABLE?
If you try Keese's, the BBQ was good, but we can REALLY recommend the Cedar Bark pie (just like pecan pie, but with coconut and walnuts instead), and their pumpkin cheesecake. Pie or pie, oh my!
By the way, Miss KT is eating so well now! She had her regular pureed vegetables that her mom makes her, but added to that she had tiny pieces of BBQ chicken, bread, and smashed pinto beans! It won't be long and she'll be eating big people food!

Baby Shower - Angie Hoyt
Angie is due in November, so we had a little shower for her on Saturday!
She's having a little girl, and we're all very anxious to see baby Wren - just before Thanksgiving sometime. Angie has some great friends and family - she's almost got everything for the babies room, including a crib, changing table, etc. On Saturday she got the stroller and swing, a diaper bag, bunches of clothes, burp cloths, little blankets, and lots of books for the babies library.
I really love this idea of giving a book instead of a card - it's so much more practical, personal, and the baby has a history of everyone who was waiting for her arrival! So neat. Why don't we do that for every gift giving occasion? Instead of a card, include a book. I'm all in on that idea!
Now we're just waiting for that call from her to let us know to come to the hospital..... can't wait!!
Aren't her cupcakes so cute?! Kudos to Cupcake Couture on Bandera Road who made these for us. They were freakin' adorable!

Movie Review --- Life As We Know It
0kay, you know that there will be a happy ending before you even go into the theater. There has to be...and the formula was going to be pretty predictable. But what you don't know is how well the chemistry will be between the main characters. And I'm happy to report that it was great!! Very cute, with several dashes of sadness and tears, but well, well done!
Small bit about some marijuana brownies that they could have totally left out if they wanted this to be a cute, family show, but I guess not. That part was totally unnecessary. Why do they throw in that kind of nonsense?
One note -- if you're going to put your best friends down in your will as the guardian of your children, should something happen to you, it would be good to ask their permission and make sure it's not a surprise. Not cool.

Colleen and Jeff's 5th Anniversary!
This last couple of weeks have been the kind you just have to "get through", know what I mean? It seems like we've had one or the other of us sick, ailing, or just draggin'. After John's surgery (which put me in a bit of a spin for a week) and me being sick with something that caused me to lose my voice (horrors!!), poor Jeff and Colleen's anniversary just slipped by without much notice.
The long awaited Colleen Collage....
Well, I think KT is a pretty good copy of this baby, too. I really can't decide. It's hard for me to find pictures -- I wish we had electronic pics in those days. Now I need Jeff's mom to post up a collage of his baby pictures now so we can review those too.
